In 2023, the District’s first weather station was installed at the District’s Main office in Tipton. By 2024, The District now has three (3) personal weather stations named after the city they are set up in; Tipton, Pixley and Woodville.

The district office, located in Tipton, CA setup their weather station on the building roof. Lower Tule River Irrigation District’s Shop, located in Woodville, set up their weather station on the north side of the shop. Pixley Irrigation District’s weather station is in the East yard of the Pixley shop.  All three (3) weather stations get weather for their Exact location, which translates to more accurate data in comparison to what is traditionally provided through the media.

Landowners can install the FREE Weather Underground app on iOS and Android, type in the STATION ID for one of the District’s three (3) weather stations and gain instant access to real time weather conditions at these District site locations.

About Weather Underground

Weather Underground is a weather service that provides weather data, forecasts, and information. It was originally founded in 1995 by a group of meteorologists and was designed to offer hyper-local weather reports. The name “Weather Underground” refers to its grassroots approach to gathering weather data, relying on a network of personal weather stations around the world.

It was acquired by The Weather Company (owned by IBM). Weather Underground provides weather data, forecasts, and weather related information. The weather underground service offers a vast range of weather content, including interactive maps, detailed forecasts, severe weather alerts and weather news.

To leverage both grassroots approach to hyper-local data and API ‘S (Application Programming Interface), then District chose to be part of Weather Underground’s Personal Weather Station Network (PWSN) and assigned a unique STATION ID to district weather stations.
